We all know ginger root, but what about turmeric root? This small yellowy-orange root with its incredible, intense aroma is little-known in Spain.
Adriana introduces it to you in this recipe and encourages you to use it much more in the kitchen, because it’s an amazing spice, packed with properties as well as having lots of historical tradition. There must be a reason why it’s one of the most widely-used spices in traditional Chinese medicine…
Just a small teaspoon of ground turmeric is more than enough for this recipe.
The other star ingredient of this turmeric latte is Medjool dates. This is one of the most highly-prized date varieties because of its size, and also because of its sweetness: it’s so pleasantly sweet and fleshy that it’s perfect for sweetening any kind of recipe without having to add sugar. Great idea, right?
- 1 cup of Amandín Organic Teff Drink
- ½ teaspoon of ground turmeric
- 2 Medjool dates, stoned
- 2 thick slices of apple
- Ground cinnamon
Put the Amandín Organic Teff Drink, the ground turmeric, the pepper and the dates in the mixer bowl. Whizz them up thoroughly and then heat them in a saucepan.
While you're waiting, make a hole in the centre of the apple slices (to get the “ring” effect) while leaving them intact.
Sprinkle the rings with cinnamon and roast them on a good hot griddle spread with olive or coconut oil.
